FAQ

Q: VHS in 2024? How did you make these?

A: Every videocassette release from Funeral Films has been hand-dubbed in house by the curator (Siobahn). There is no boutique duplication service involved, except if you receive a Big Box cardboard casing instead of a Clamshell. Sometimes you might receive a bit of extra trim on the tape, the remaining time on the tape cannot be overwritten however due to the copy protection tab being removed. The footage was shot, uploaded, edited, and mastered digitally, and then downsampled back to 1080p upon dubbing back to VHS. So even on a dated analog format, you are receiving the highest quality of this audiovisual work.

Q: I own a videocassette player, but I don’t quite know everything about VHS setup yet. How do I know if my VCR will play my tape?

A: Just pop it in and test it! All of our tapes were printed on NTSC formatted VHS tapes and are compatible with any NTSC player and Region-unlocked players. “NTSC” refers to a format of North American & Japanese Region media, it is how most of your existing DVDs and Blu-rays are formatted if you live in the US. Each tape was tested to work with compatible players and for quality performance prior to being put for sale. So if you are having issues with your player, please try troubleshooting your specific VCR model before contacting us.

Q: I don’t have a VCR. Is there another/digital way for me to view the video?

A: Yes! We expect that there are going to be people who don’t own VCRs and simply want to collect, or people still want to view and support the project. We offer a digital download link with every physical purchase.

Q: Do you offer refunds?

A: We do not offer refunds. We offer exchanges if your tape has come damaged or there was a dubbing error, but we highly encourage refering to standard VCR cleaning and maintenence before contacting us directly for an exchange.

Q: Are you taking submissions?

A: Yes! But with discretion. Please send a consultation request through the contact form to see if your concept is a good fit.
